As a guest, you can post a room wanted ad on SpareRoom. This lets hosts — and other members browsing the Flatmates tab — see that you are looking for a room, and contact you directly.
What is a room wanted ad?
A room wanted ad is a short profile that tells hosts who you are, when you are looking to move, what your budget is, and what kind of room you are looking for. It appears in search results alongside room listings, under the Flatmates tab.
How to post a room wanted ad
- Log in and go to your Dashboard.
- Click Post Room Wanted Ad.
- Fill in your details: your budget, preferred area, move-in date, and a short description about yourself.
- Click Publish.
Your ad will appear in the Flatmates tab when hosts or other guests search in your chosen area.
Tips for a good room wanted ad
- Be specific about your budget and preferred suburbs — vague ads attract fewer responses
- Write a short, friendly introduction about yourself — hosts want to know who they are letting into their home
- Mention your lifestyle: work hours, whether you have pets, whether you smoke, and any house preferences
- Keep your move-in date current — update it if your plans change
Tip: Posting a room wanted ad does not replace searching for listings. Do both — search for available rooms and let hosts come to you at the same time.
