Searching for a room on SpareRoom is straightforward. Enter a suburb or city on the home page to see all available listings in that area.
Rooms and Flatmates tabs
Search results show two tabs:
- Rooms — listings from hosts with a room available to rent
- Flatmates — room wanted ads from guests who are also looking for a place
As a guest looking for a room, you will mostly use the Rooms tab. The Flatmates tab is useful if you want to find someone to team up with to rent a property together.
Using filters
Narrow your results using the search filters:
- Price — set a minimum and maximum weekly rent
- Bills included — filter to only show listings where utilities are included in the rent
- Move-in date — filter to rooms available by a specific date
- Property type — house, apartment, studio, and so on
- Furnished — furnished or unfurnished rooms
Viewing a listing
Click any listing to see the full details: description, photos, amenities, nearby places, and the weekly rent. If the listing looks right for you, click Contact Host to send a message.
Shortlisting
If you want to save a listing to review later, click the shortlist icon on any listing. Your shortlisted rooms are saved to your Dashboard. See How do I shortlist a listing?
Tip: Set up your search with filters before contacting hosts — the more specific your search, the more relevant the results. If you can't find what you need, try broadening the area or adjusting the price range.
